Present Situations and the Reality of Quality Assurance

Abstract
The Yonsei Medical Center has performed its activities for quality improvement by keeping
in step with changes to provide high quality healthcare in its medical services. The Yonsei
Medical Center established and declared `Patients Rights" in March, 1993, for the first time in
our country and established the Department of Quality Improvement to continue its activities. The Department of Quality Improvement has worked on the following activities :
1. Establishment of a system for quality improvement
2. Organization & operation of eight CQI teams
3. Education of quality improvement
4. Preparation for evaluation of the tertiary Health Delivery System
5. Utilization management
6. Patient satisfaction surveys
7. Hospital infections
8. Medical disputes.
Also, the department of nursing has worked on quality improvement activities in the management of manpower, nursing practice, patient satisfaction and hospital infection control through the committees. Eight teams in the nursing department have worked on CQI activities since 1995.
In the future, the Department of Nursing will continue to perform CQI activities in the departments themselves and will participate actively in CQI activities in the hospital for the satisfaction of both patients and hospital employees.
